Sree Sree Jadabananda Swami 

Mahatma Sree Sree Jadabananda Baul was born on 1865 (Baisakh month of 1272 as per Bengali calender)  in a village named Bhatin, situated in the Manbhum district near the Kashipur police station. His father’s name was Narayan Singh Sardar. Despite his ancestors' Ghatoayal title, they were better recognized as landlords or Sardars. Even today, many of their descendants reside in Bhatin village. Mahatma was married and had a son who tragically passed away at the young age of 20 / 21. Shortly before this loss, Mahatma's wife also passed away.

 Despite being part of the household, Mahatma embarked on a path of spiritual practice and devotion, demonstrating an unparalleled commitment to spiritual pursuits. Initially employed in the government's police department, he later renounced worldly responsibilities to fully dedicate himself to spiritual practices and devotion. 

After renouncing worldly affairs, he lived a reclusive life, practicing meditation according to his own inclination. Before long, he became renowned as Shree Shree Jadav Baul, a distinguished saint. People from distant places sought his blessings to alleviate various physical and mental ailments. Through His divine power He could understand and tell the exact thought process of others and just by a touching the patient’s body could alleviate their suffering.

 As his fame spread, more and more people sought him out, and his secluded place got filled with individuals from diverse backgrounds, seeking solutions to their problems. However, uncomfortable with worldly distractions, He relocated to a simple hermitage near the banks of the Kansai River in the village of Kaira, adjacent to Puncha Police Sation, where He continued his spiritual practices in seclusion.

 Gradually, locals recognized him as a liberated soul, and many eagerly embraced devotional practices under his guidance. Around the age of 50-55, during a brief return to Bhatin village, he encountered Sree Sree 108 Swami Birajananda Bharati, who ran a spice shop there. Despite their initial unfamiliarity, Swamiji was deeply moved by the words Mahatma Sree Sree Jadabananda Swamy spoke, which resonated with His (Swamiji's) inner thoughts. Later, Swamiji realized that Mahatma deliberately voiced thoughts aligned with His own, forging an instant connection.

 During this period, Swamiji suffered greatly from piles, finding no relief despite medical treatments. Only after consuming a lizard at Sree Sree Jadabananda Swamy's suggestion did Swamiji experience relief from the chronic ailment. In a subsequent dream, Swamiji received initiation from Sree Sree Jadabananda Swamy, eventually leading to Swamiji and His wife’s  formal initiation during Durga Puja in the month of Aswin, year 1324 (1917).

 From time to time certain physical transformations used to take place in Sree Sree Jadabananda Swami’s body like sudden whitening and subsequent darkening of his hair, temporary loss of sight, getting paralyzed for sometime due to sudden stroke, all  of  which He attributed as a side effect of his intense spiritual practices. He maintained equality among all, offering initiation and guidance to Hindus and Muslims alike, and accepting food offerings without discrimination. For this reason He was known as Aghor sadhak. 

Though He was indifferent about what He was eating, people used to love Him dearly . No one bore any negative feeling towards Him in spite of His strange behavior . He never discriminated by gender and looked at all human beings as one. 

After sometime once He perceived Swamiji and His wife as suitable, He put them under the guidance of  His esteemed spiritual mentor, the venerable Sree Sree Kena Ram Baul— popularly known as Sree Sree Sadanda (Dasi) Swami . On the 27th day of Chaitra in the year 1330 both of them ( Sree Sree Sadanda (Dasi) Swami  and Sree Sree Jadabananda Swamy)  initiated Swamiji into Sanyas. After being initiated into Sanyas, Swamiji  renounced worldly duties and started to reside  with them, adhering to their teachings and performing actions as guided by them.

Despite societal criticism, the minds of the revered ones, Sree Sree Sadanda (Dasi) Swami  and Sree Sree Jadabananda Swamy remained steadfast, unaffected by any semblance of deviation and gradually overcoming all obstacles through their efforts, and by their grace Swamiji attained the state of an accomplished practitioner. 

After a few days in Nov 1928 (1335 Aghran Month as per Bengali calender) at the age of 63,  Sree Sree Jadabananda Swamy  voluntarily transcended to His desired spiritual realm.  His samadhi temple is situated in Liya village, south of Kashipur. 

The samadhi temple was  constructed in 1335 (bengali calender year) . Few years back it was re erected again by Siddeshwar De of Sonathaoli village . Liya village lies 11.12 miles south of the B.N.R. Railway Adra Junction.
